Anna R

From feeling scared to walk through the door, to representing EVO at Turf Games earlier this month. We interviewed EVO member Anna Rydberg about her health and fitness journey with us.

What exercise did you do before EVO?

I’d tried my best to stay active in various ways but like for all of us, life gets busy. Unlike with other gyms, you can book classes at EVO with short notice and that suits me well. EVO has been very supportive when life throws curveballs; I’ve brought my kids to some sessions when I couldn’t get childcare, how many gyms allows that?

How did you feel at the start of your journey with us?

I was feeling quite out of shape and I was worried I would stick out, or not be able to keep up in the classes. I started in the Ride studio and eventually, with some encouragement from the team, I started taking part in the Strength and Metcon classes too.

What are the biggest changes you’ve seen since coming to EVO?

I’m committed to the gym now, it’s a priority for my physical and mental health. After making a conscious decision to go from sober curious to teetotal a couple of years ago, I’m so grateful to have found a place to let out some steam and to re-set. Training at EVO definitely gives me the mental and emotional strength I need to stay on top of life, in general.

What have you learnt?

That it’s never too late to make new commitments and set goals. I never thought I would do something as hardcore as Turf Games earlier this month. And that I now have, is purely down to the EVO team encouraging me to believe in myself.

What are your favourite classes?

I love the variety! Weight training makes me feel powerful. Ride is really good to clear your head. Metcon is a great mix of everything. Actually, I don’t think I can choose a favourite class. On average I’ve do three classes a week, 45min per session.

Changes?

The changes in my body are remarkable. I’ve not changed my diet drastically but I’ve still lost 8kgs or so. I feel great and my sleep has also improved.

Advice for anyone?

No matter how busy life gets, try to take some time for yourself to attend classes, and you will reap the benefits in no time. Just a small commitment of a couple of classes a week will make a huge difference.

If you’ve not yet tried a class, or haven’t been for sometime, don’t be scared. The hardest step is over the doorstep, but it is so, so worth it!
